French Kiss Vintage feature in this months Sublime Magazine

Back in August, whilst hanging out at the Vintage at Goodwood festival, we happened to stumble upon a tent occupied by the rather fabulous Sublime Magazine.

Sublime had set up a little photo shoot area and were snapping all the dashing ladies and gents at the fest. Naturally, French Kiss Vintage were happy to oblige. Check out our teeny tiny pic in their Vintage At Goodwood feature above. The feature appears in their latest issue which you can purchase for a modest fee at www.sublimemagazine.com. They won't even charge you for delivery. Enjoy!

Vintage Guide to London Fashion Week

From top tips on where to shop for cool, catwalk-worthy vintage pieces a stone’s throw away from the big show venues, to where to get your very own Mad Men-esque beehive or where to party like it’s England ’86, the Vintage Guide to London has compiled a list of some of London’s best vintage shops, bars and events to keep you entertained during London Fashion Week.

Lena Weber, founder and Editor-in-Chief at The Vintage Guide to London, said “While I love LFW and can’t wait for things to kick off, I often find myself with a few hours between shows or events. This season I fully intend on filling this time with a dash around some of my favourite vintage shops, which are just around the corner from Somerset House.

“London is at the forefront of both fashion and vintage, so what better time to explore the capital’s vintage scene as during Fashion Week.”

Vintage luggage and brown brogues - a sneak peak of our Autumn collection

September is here and the leaves will soon be turning beautiful shades of copper, russet and brown. With the summer holidays behind us and party season still a few months ahead, this is our favourite month for long weekends away.

And whether we're hopping on the Eurostar to Paris for hot chocolates in arty cafés or enjoying welly clad rambles and rustic cream teas in the Devonshire countryside, we'll be throwing our toothbrush, negligee and aran knits in this spellbindingly beautiful antique luggage set:

Match it up with these luxe long brown leather boots - wear with jodhpurs (making a comeback) for an authentic country casual look. What ho!
Team your artfully androgynous tweed slacks or Chanel homage twin-set with these comely brown brogues. They feature a nice platform heel so your legs will look nice and shapely:
Finally, it's all to easy to reach for sombre shades of black and grey when the nights start drawing in, but a touch of stark white in the mix is wonderfully refreshing, like those blindingly bright and fresh winter mornings. This carpet bag has a lovely 1960s style shape that will complement the Left Bank looks creeping into the shops, and the wallpaper style print has a whiff of old English heritage that will really set off a well tailored camel coat:

New for Autumn: Vintage sheepskin aviator jacket

What fashion rag of late hasn't waxed lyrical about the Aviator sheepskin jacket? I got mine months before Burberry sent their girl trotting down the catwalk, but recently my coat has gone from being a provocation for humour (I've heard all the Biggles jokes) to a coat I fear might get nicked at a party if I leave it down. Over the next month you'll see numerous Aviator copies flying out of the high street shops, but if you you can't afford Burberry and want something well made and unique, we've got just the thing...

Our vintage aviator jacket, modelled by FKV's Miss Ooh La La, combines authentic beaten-up leather with warm and cosy sheepskin. It features the high collar and buckle details as the Burberry version and is worn a little bit oversize for a suitably nonchalant vibe.

The Aviator jacket is part of the French Kiss Vintage Autumn collection, coming soon to Laura J London.

Hendricks Horseless Carriage at Camp Bestival

When Ms Ooh La La heard her pals from 40Winks were teaming up with Hendricks's Gin & heading down to Camp Bestival for vintage shenanigans she was intrigued and had to go for a peek. And indeed she was not disappointed, as coming across a Horseless Carriage of Curiousities, she was entertained by the wonderful Rachel Rose Reid with bedtime stories of tragedy, wonder & good old fashioned fairy tales.

Plus those lovely chaps at the Hendricks bar made sure we were all well lubricated throughout the evening with a good old gin cocktails, an absolute essential I find for getting a good night's kip in a damp tent.

Here are some of the pictures of what lurked on board, from cabinets of curiousities to the dapper outfits of those lovely Hendricks folk:

You can find out more about the Hendrick's travelling Curiositorium and join up to win a fabulous vintage bike here. Rightio we're all off to pour ourselves a teacup of mother's ruin...

Top 5 Vintage Outdoor Games

1. Pétanque - best for fashionistas
Back in May, one of our favourite fashion bloggers Garance Doré reported from the frontline of Karl Lagerfeld's Chanel cruise showcase on a pavement cafe lined street of St Tropez. But aside from the spectacle of Georgia May Jagger rocking up on a motorbike with Sebastien Jondeau to close the show, the pictures that got everyone talking were the ones taken later in the evening, depicting Chanel muse Vanessa Paradis and Diane Kruger partaking in that quintessentially Gallic of pastimes: Pétanque.

Pétanque is a form of boules that can be played just about anywhere. Simply stand in a starting circle with both feet on the ground, then throw metal balls as close as possible to a small wooden ball called a cochonnet or jack.

Of course fashionista Pétanque demands that you do all this whilst wearing something suitably fabulous. And so Kruger enjoyed her twilight Pétanque tournament dressed head to toe in Chanel, accessorising with a carefully considered white Panama hat. A special Pétanque set was also commissioned by Chanel for the occasion - the precious balls were housed in an old fashioned wicker basket with the iconic Chanel logo branded on the cover. It's on sale now as a limited edition piece, but us mere mortals can pick up a much cheaper version at John Lewis.

2. Croquet - best for posh outdoor dos

The ultimate garden party pursuit, Croquet is perfect for those occasions when you are in formal dress as it's gentle enough not to cause you to work up an unbecoming sweat. The aim of the game is simply to hit your ball with the wooden mallet through several arches or gateways. It's a relaxed game, and the large gaps in between turns allow plentiful opportunities to sip your gin and tonic or reapply your lipstick.

If you are looking for the perfect wedding gift or want to spoil yourself with a Croquet set that will last for years then we recommend paying a visit to Jaques of London. They're the oldest sports and Games Company in the world and boast a wide selection of beautifully made kits. If your budget is a little less, you can always hire one for the day at ubergames.co.uk

3. Rounders - best for picnics
We’ve been lucky enough to enjoy a fair few picnics this summer. But how does one keep entertained? Forget frisbee, to work off that Somerset Brie you're going to need to something a little bit more active and we reckon we’ve come up with just the thing… Rounders.

Yes, I kid you not. Once the preserve of girl guides and Games lessons at school, Rounders is currently enjoying a renaissance. I recently enjoyed a game as part of a freind's 'Wild and Wonderful Hen Do Picnic' in Richmond Park and I can tell you my calves were aching the next day from all the running.

Rounders originated in England and dates right back to Tudor times. It's simple to play, even when you're a little tipsy on warm rosé, making it just perfect for boozy summer picnics. Simply divide your gang into two teams, Strikers and Fielders. One fielder bowls, another remains behind the striker as a backstop and the others dot themselves around the field alongside 4 strategically placed cones. Each striker then takes their turn to hit the ball and then run around the four bases in order to score, providing a fielder does not get their hands on the ball and knock them out first! Pick up a kit for £25 at John Lewis

4 Skittles - best for bowling alley enthusiasts

A few years ago, it seemed as though everyone in London was booking Lindy Hop classes and spending their Saturdays recapturing the mood of the 1950s at Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes. And it’s safe to say that come winter, this will be high on our agenda for nights out.

But on fairweather days, we prefer to ditch the cavernous blowling alley for the garden where we can indlulge in a spot of skittles. Okay so it's not quite bowling, but it's the next best thing.

We found a lovely vintage style wooden skittles game over at cloth-ears.co.uk. Get a full size set complete with a gift box, 1 x wooden ball and 10 x wooden skittles, carry bag and playing instructions for just £36.99

5. Parlour Games
- Best for Rainy Days
Yes we know this is supposed to be a top 5 Outdoor Games list but we cannot exclude the possibility of rain spoiling our plans; this is England after all.

In bygone days, inclement weather was just another excuse to indulge in a spot of 'Parlour Games' such as card games and chess. In fact, it was during the Victorian era that classic games such as Happy Families, Tiddley-Winks, Ludo, Snakes and Ladders came into existence.

Now you can recreate those cosy evenings of long ago with a Jaques of London hand built polished Mahogany Indoor Games Compendium. At £149 this is a real investment piece but it’s packed with all sorts of goodies including a Maple and Walnut Chess board, Backgammon board, Boxwood Jaques Staunton chess men, Backgammon playing pieces, Draughts playing pieces, Specially made Dominoes, Poker Dice, rules and cards for Bridge, a beautiful inlaid Jaques Cribbage board, two packs of Jaques playing cards, Jaques' original Happy Families and Jaques original reintroduction Snap.

The Chap Olympiad

We may have put in an embarrassing performance at The World Cup and eluded the Wimbledon trophy for yet another year running, but on Saturday 17th July old Blighty redeemed herself in a series of sporting triumphs at the annual Chap Olympiad.

This year's tournament attracted no less than 1,500 exceedingly well dressed patrons, all of whom gathered in Bloomsbury's Bedford Square Gardens to participate in a series of most unusual sporting endeavours - anything from cucumber sandwich discus, to umbrella jousting whilst on a bicycle. Spectators could also amuse themselves with live music, sideshows and refreshments.

The exceedingly eccentric event was hosted by the fellows at The Chap Magazine along with Bourne & Hollingsworth - our favourite place to grab a whiskey and ginger ale.

Vintage Patisserie wows the Dragons

Relaxing on my chaise lounge tonight I was absent mindedly flicking TV channels when I stumbled upon the latest episode of Dragon’s Den. Here we go again, I thought to myself, another collection of wide-eyed lambs waiting their turn to enter the slaughter house.

That was until a flame haired vixen in a sumptuous midnight blue gown stepped into the lair. Accompanied by a troop of 1920s style waitresses and swing dancers, I recognised her immediately as Angela Newman, AKA Angel Adoree, owner of the Vintage Patisserie and a regular at some of the best vintage inspired evenings in town.

Vintage Patisserie create magical tea party events – the exquisite bone china, the out of this world cupcakes, the bygone era tea maids, the dancers, the music – everything you can think of to create the perfect vintage inspired soiree. French Kiss Vintage had the pleasure of meeting Angel at a memorable afternoon at the 40Winks hotel and we can report that she is one very passionate and clued-up lady.

On Dragon’s Den, Angel revealed her hopes to open a vintage inspired tea shop-come-boutique where she could recreate the atmosphere of her tea parties for the London shopper. And the location for this shop? Soho darling. Hence the need for a wealthy Dragon type to invest.

And, despite enduring a few red-faced moments when the Dragons interrogated her over her projected figures, we’re delighted to report that Miss Adoree managed to get not one but two Dragons on board, leaving the den victorious with the £100,000 she was after.

To all at Vintage Patisserie, French Kiss Vintage want to wish you the very best of luck. We can't wait to see what happens next!

Jump in the pool at Standon Calling

French Kiss Vintage is excited to hear that DJ/podcast duo Houdini’s Picnic are to conduct a very special water themed transmission by the swimming pool at the Standon Calling Festival. The Hertfordshire festival boasts a glittering line up of bands and some added extras, inspired by this year’s murder mystery theme.

Revellers can take swing lessons with Swing Mon Amour, watch classic crime flicks with Lexi On The Run, enjoy some night-time Yurt storytelling or kick back at the speakeasy bar. Forget looking disheveled; at the on-site hair salon you can get a haircut, get your hair washed or get your barnet straightened. Then you can visit the on-site tailor, Anna Popovich or get a fancy dress makeover at Bizarre Bazaar before accessorising at Gabby Young’s Gabberdashery shop.

And after all that beautifying it’s time to undo it all by jumping in the swimming pool and enjoying a good old fashioned underwater disco.
