Is it the pleasing whine and clunk of the unsophisticated mechanics as the ghostly white sheet spits out of the heavy plastic exterior?
Is it the mysterious image slowly piecing itself together before your eyes, detail by detail?
Or is it the tactile photograph itself; a defiant, unchangeable encapsulation of a moment in time?
Which is why there was such widespread dismay when, back in 2008, it was revealed that Polaroid HQ were to cease production of their much loved instant film. Cue an explosion of Ebay bidding wars for the very last packs of films and a flurry of Polaroid tribute sites lamenting the much loved instant pic.
Until now, it seemed that all that was left to do was give in and reach for the Lomo, or layer your boring digital camera images with a polaroid style frame in photoshop.
But that was before The Impossible Project decided to step into the ring. They've launched a worldwide manifesto to re-invent and restart the production of analogue integral film for vintage Polaroid cameras. Their plan? To help bring back instant film in 2010.
